The "XXIX Feria internacional de Arte y Antiguedades de Madrid" houses a monographic exhibition of some important ancient tapestries from the large collection at the Museo Nacional de Artes Decorativas in Madrid. Four tapestries from the Southern Netherlands, woven in the period 1490-1550, are on view: a Royal Wedding, a Nativity and adoration of the Shepherds, the Ointment of Saul (from the series in Cuenca), and above all, for the first time, the Vision of Ezekiel, recently bought by the Spanish government from a noble Spanish family where the tapestry was preserved since the 19th century. It has been made for the 'letto da paramento' of Pope Leo X around 1520. The cartoon, attributed to Tommaso Vincidor is preserved at Boughton House. The tapestry itself, woven by Pieter van Aelst in Brussels, was thought to be lost. [GD]
